FOREST SCHOOL

Forest School is a child-led, inquiry-based, rain-or-shine outdoor program focusing on learning through play and exploration. Children spend their days immersed in nature, developing a sense of wonder and amazement for the world around them. Our school is lucky to be located where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Chesapeake Bay, so many of our days are spent in and around one of our many local waterways. On some days, you might find us hiking trails through the forest, building with sticks, observing bugs, and climbing trees. On others, we might splash through water, catch crabs and lizards, build sand castles, or relax with a book or watercolor journal. Children in the Forest School program are given space to explore their natural curiosity and innate desire to learn through play. Our philosophy focuses on growing children's social-emotional skills and cognitive and linguistic development while developing imagination, problem-solving, resilience, and the ability to safely approach risk-full situations.

“The child is both a hope and a promise for mankind.”

-Maria Montessori
